Autumn might be the Fraser Valley’s best-kept seasonal secret. While summer gets most of the attention, fall brings its own version of abundance, one measured in pumpkins, apple harvests, crisp morning air, and a calendar full of community events that have been drawing families back year after year. From the pumpkin patches of Langley to the eagle-watching sites near Harrison, the region has a way of making the season feel like something worth slowing down for.
Pumpkin Patches and Corn Mazes
The Fraser Valley is home to some of the Lower Mainland’s best pumpkin patches. Aldor Acres and Eagle Acres in Langley, Taves Family Farms and Maan Farms in Abbotsford, and Greendale Acres in Chilliwack all offer family-friendly fall experiences with hayrides, petting zoos, and acres of pumpkins to choose from.
Apple Picking and Cider Tasting
Taves Family Farms (also known as The Applebarn) is a local favourite for U-pick apples. Their on-site Taves Estate Cidery offers tastings of craft ciders made from their own harvest. It’s a quintessential fall outing that combines outdoor activity, fresh food, and local flavour.
The Fort Langley Cranberry Festival
Held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year, the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival is one of the Fraser Valley’s biggest annual events. It features cranberry-themed food and activities, a lively artisan market, live music, cooking demonstrations, and family entertainment throughout the day.
Eagle Watching and Fall Colour
From October through January, hundreds of bald eagles gather along the Harrison River to feed on spawning salmon. Guided tours and viewing areas near Harrison Mills offer a remarkable wildlife experience. Meanwhile, the region’s parks and trails are at their most colourful as deciduous trees turn brilliant shades of gold, orange, and red.
