Township of Langley firefighters and community members gather to support the School Snack Program, ensuring kids have healthy snacks at school. The Township of Langley Firefighters’ Charitable Society (TLFCS) has run a School Snack Program since 2014 to fight student hunger. By providing nutritious snacks to 39 schools across Langley (32 in the Township and 7 in the City), this program helps approximately 23,000 students stay focused, learn better, and thrive in the classroom. Schreder Brothers Real Estate Group is proud to support this vital community initiative and ensure no child in Langley goes hungry at school.
Fighting Hunger in Langley Schools: The School Snack Program
The Langley School Snack Program is a collaborative effort by Township of Langley firefighters (IAFF Local 4550) and City of Langley firefighters (IAFF Local 3253) to make sure no student is left vulnerable. Off-duty firefighters volunteer their time to purchase, organize, and deliver healthy snacks to participating schools each month. “Our School Snack Program helps ensure students don’t go to school hungry,” the TLFCS team emphasizes. Any Langley school that needs it can join the program, and there is absolutely no cost to the schools or families – the snacks are provided through donations and the firefighters’ charitable fund. By addressing food insecurity in a discreet and stigma-free way, the program promotes healthy eating and supports academic success for thousands of children.
Community support has been key to the program’s growth. In fact, local fundraisers have rallied around this cause – for example, a recent bottle drive in Aldergrove raised nearly $1,800 to help feed local students. “Even something as small as a bottle deposit can make a big difference when it comes to improving nutrition for children,” noted one organizer. This generosity, combined with the firefighters’ dedication, means more kids have the fuel they need to learn and succeed every day.
Did you know? The Snack Program is one of several charitable projects run by TLFCS. These firefighters also support other causes like the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation, the BC Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund, and Muscular Dystrophy Canada – all part of their mission to protect and uplift the community they serve.
Schreder Brothers Gives Back: $100 Giveaway & $250 Donation
At Schreder Brothers, we believe in strengthening our community by supporting the heroes and programs that make Langley a better place. To boost awareness and help fund the School Snack Program, we’re launching a special community giveaway this month. Here’s how it works: one lucky winner will receive a $100 prize (think of it as a thank-you for caring!), and we will donate $250 directly to the Township of Langley Firefighter Charities’ School Snack Program on behalf of the winner.
Cory Schreder, co-founder of the Schreder Brothers Real Estate Group, shares: “As lifelong Langley residents, we want to ensure every child in our hometown can succeed. Supporting the firefighters’ School Snack Program is a natural fit – it’s about neighbours helping neighbours. We’re excited to donate and invite our community to join in this effort.”
How to enter the giveaway? It’s simple – head over to our Instagram @schrederbrothers and look for the giveaway post. Make sure you follow the entry instructions (hint: you’ll likely just need to like the post, follow a couple of accounts, and tag some friends). By participating, you’re spreading the word about the Snack Program and showing that you care about local kids. (Even if you don’t win the $100, the real winners are the students in our community!)
Join Us in Supporting Langley’s Kids
When a child doesn’t have to worry about an empty stomach, they can concentrate on being a kid – learning, playing, and growing. That’s the outcome we want for all Langley students. Through the TLFCS School Snack Program, our firefighters are making sure “no child goes hungry in school”, and we’re honoured to play a part in that mission.
You can help too! Enter our Instagram giveaway to spread awareness, share this story with your friends and family, or consider making a direct donation to the program. Every dollar makes a difference – just $1 can provide a healthy snack for a child who might otherwise go without. Together, let’s continue to support our community’s youth and ensure brighter, healthier futures for them.
