Protect Your Trip from the Unexpected

Travel often comes with surprises – flight delays, cancelled connections, stolen luggage, or unexpected illness. Good travel insurance does more than cover your flight. It protects your plans, your wallet, and your peace of mind when life throws a curveball. But not all insurance policies are created equal. Understanding the fine print can help you choose a plan that actually covers you when it matters most.

Know the Difference: Trip Cancellation vs. Trip Interruption
Trip cancellation coverage reimburses you for prepaid, non-refundable costs if you must cancel before departure for a covered reason, like illness or severe weather. Trip interruption kicks in if you must cut your trip short or return home early due to covered events – for example, a medical emergency or unexpected event at your destination. More Info here.

Don’t Assume All Reasons are Covered
Standard plans cover specific “covered events.” If a cause isn’t listed – like a simple change of mind, unforeseeable work situation, or fear of travel – you may not get reimbursed. That’s why some travellers opt for “Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) as an add-on. CFAR can reimburse 50-75% of prepaid non-refundable costs if you cancel for reasons not covered under standard policies. Keep in mind: CFAR usually costs more, must be purchased soon after booking, and often requires insured costs to be 100% covered up front.

Travel Delays & Travel Disruptions Matter
Even minor setbacks – traffic jams to the airport, weather delays, system outages – can disrupt your plans and add unexpected expenses: meals, unplanned hotel nights, lost tours or reservations. Many travel insurance policies include trip-delay or disruption coverage to reimburse such costs when certain conditions are met (e.g. delays exceeding a specified number of hours).

Include Medical, Baggage & Add-On Coverage
If you’re traveling internationally or engaging in active travel, make sure your policy includes medical coverage, emergency evacuation, lost or delayed baggage protection, and optional add-ons for activities. These extras can save you heavily out-of-pocket if something goes wrong.

Read the Policy & Know Timing Requirements
Insurance benefits vary greatly depending on the provider and plan. What counts as a “covered event” and when you need to purchase coverage – or cancel – might differ. For example, CFAR benefits typically must be added within a short time after your initial deposit and require cancellation at least 48-72 hours before departure. Always read the fine print and consult a licensed broker if you are uncertain.
